Empty Signs III: Greyhound Bus Stand

While the Plaza Hotel sign next door just might have a chance of being saved, The Greyhound Bus Stand wasn’t so lucky. Another Mid-century modern sign and structure, built in 1957. Designed by: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and built by Nielsen & Nielsen.

Here’s what remains of that sign now.

So sad, especially since the sign hung on for so long… This photo by Heather David, the Bay Area’s resident expert on mid-century architecture and a sign specialist, was taken in 2016.

And this one below, from 1957, shows the building and sign at it’s best.
