Across the street from the recently closed Mel Cotton’s is Hill’s Flowers, which has been around since 1929 (or is it 1920, as  their website says?) Mrs. Mae Hill opened the store a few blocks from her residence on Mayellen Avenue. As you can see in this “then and now” shot  (courtesy of the Buena Vista Neighborhood Association) the sign at the top of the store is still the original one.
