Sands Motel is located on Monterey Highway which was more traveled in the 1960’s. Today many of the once-thriving businesses on this route stand dilapidated or closed as larger freeways have replaced Monterey Highway as the main commute route. Sands Motel advertises an intriguing tiki-lea suites (that no longer exist) on a faded sign near this neon sign.  The “NO” part of “NO VACANCY” doesn’t work anymore so the motel advertises permanent vacancies…Still, this sign, even in it’s present condition has presence and charm.
