Though the U-Save store in San Jose is an independent store, it would have once been a part of a U-Save chain of stores. Search “U-Save liquors” online and you’ll see a whole lot of signs that are too similar to have no connection. There’s this beautifully aged one in Redwood City, this other great one in Belmont, and a whole lot more… And you can see how much they resemble San Jose’s Hyde park U-Save.

There’s no way to miss this super-imposing sign as you drive North First Street.This sign and the others in this series are from the 1950s. The rectangular panel under the original sign with the word ‘LIQUOR’ and the name of a Sports Lounge is a newer addition.
