This Wheel Works sign is from the 1950s. Ever wondered how neon signs are made? If you watch this video, you’ll figure why this sign is so special. It takes a master neon-bender to get all those zigzag bends into the neon. All the zig-zag patterns on that tire are in neon, as you can see more clearly in this photo by Heather David.
If you look closely at the south-facing side of the sign, you will see that the paint is worn away, revealing another name under the Wheel Works sign. The sign originally read Tire Service Company.
