7-Eleven

There are only a few of these older 7-Eleven signs left in San Jose.  Did you know that the company’s first outlets were named “Tote’m Stores” because customers “toted” away their purchases? In 1946, the chain’s name was changed from “Tote’m” to “7Eleven” to reflect the company’s new, extended hours, 7:00 am to 11:00 pm, seven days per week.

Recently, the store has replaced most of the older signage with newer ones that cleverly highlights the green color, perhaps alluding to fresher, healthier products and a greener business. below is a photo of the newer signage.

Cool… in the “you can never unsee this” category… most people don’t notice that the name is spelled 7-ELEVEn, with all the letters except the last in upper case… But once someone points it out you can never fail to notice it again :-). Sorry.

Huh, I drew the sign ( more than once!) and I don’t think I really noticed it. Like you said, I’ll never un-notice it again! Many thanks for writing in!
